​6th August 2024 - The Cuando River Basin Integrated Water Resources Management Plan(IWRMP) has been launched in Luena, Moxico Province of Angola. The collaborative-led initiative was spearheaded by three key partners namely; Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM), Kavango-Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) and World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature, through transboundary collaboration and cooperation involving four KAZA states; Angola, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

The vision of the IWRMP is “a sustainable and resilient Cuando River Basin for all by 2024”.
The launch was graced by the Administrator of Moxico Bernardo Chissola and Vice Governor of Moxico Province Wilson Augusto, while the three partner institutions were represented by KAZA Executive Secretary, Dr. Nyambe Nyambe, WWF Zambia Country Director, Nalucha Nganga-Ziba, ZAMCOM Representative, Ms. Mwasiti Rashid, NAMSC Chair – Namibia Representative, Mr. Cletius Mubita, and Ms Bela a representative of the Angolan government.

The plan’s main objectives are to ensure the protection, management, development, and sustainable utilization of water and other natural resources of the Cuando River Basin for (a) Sustainable Livelihoods, (b) Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health, (c) Strengthened Governance, and (d) Adaptation and Mitigation of Climate Change. The initiative was funded by the Dutch Postcode Lottery. Join the transboundary collaborative efforts and be part of conservation for sustainable livelihoods.
