2019 Intern

Meet Mweemba Mweene.

She has a Bachelor’s degrees in Mass Communication and Human Resource management from the Livingstone International University of Tourism Excellence and Business Management and Mulungushi University in Zambia, respectively.

Who do you look to for inspiration?

Two people. My mother and Nelson Mandela.

My mother inspires me to work hard, she is a hard worker and a strong woman. I look up to her when I am weak and she is always there to strengthen me. I cannot say enough about her, she is the best!

Nelson Mandela’s determination to fight for freedom. His quotes are inspirational. My favorite quote is “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. A brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”, another is “Iam the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul”. They are many, I love all his quotes - they inspire me.

What motivated you to join WWF?

I love the lion, I love colorful birds and I love water. So my love for nature. I love parks recreational parks and national parks. I wanted to work for an organization that loves nature as much as I do.

What environmental issue would you like to be part of addressing?

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the International Institute of Peace through Tourism on Climate Change. During this time I developed a deep love for nature. Climate change is real. Our seasons have been altered, rains are delayed, and emitted gases are affecting the ozone layer.

What excites you the most about this Internship?

The opportunities that I am given to express my ideas, contribute to the organization objectives, and to apply my knowledge.

What role can your generation play in making the world a better place?

We can play a role in governing our country. Youth should have a voice and be able to speak up. We should be able to contribute to the development of the country because we are the leaders of tomorrow, and have an understanding of our today.
